Former Eastern League prospect Randy Gumpert was born on this date in 1918. He played in the Eastern League for the Williamsport Grays (1936,’38-‘39) and Binghamton Triplets (1939-40). 

Gumpert played in the majors during 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Athletics (1936-38), New York Yankees (1946-48), Chicago White Sox (1948-51), Boston Red Sox (1952), and Washington Senators (1952).

He briefly managed the Bradford Yankees in the New York-Penn League in 1956, and was a scout for the New York Yankees from 1961 until 1993.

Gumpert died on November 25, 2008 at the age of 90.
