Former Eastern League manager Bob Nieman was born on this date in 1927. He managed the 1964 Charleston (West Virginia) Indians to a 70-70 record.

Nieman played in the majors for 12 seasons with the St. Louis Browns (1951-52), Detroit Tigers (1953-54), Chicago White Sox (1955-56), Baltimore Orioles (1956-59), St. Louis Cardinals (1961), Cleveland Indians (1961-62) and San Francisco Giants (1962).

He worked as a major league scout for several years after his playing days. Nieman died on March 10, 1985 at the age of 58.
