Former Eastern League prospect Walt Dropo was born on this date in 1923. He played for the Scranton Red Sox in 1947.

Dropo played in the majors during 13 seasons with the Boston Red Sox (1949-52), Detroit Tigers (1952-54), Chicago White Sox (1955-58), Cincinnati Red (1958-59), Baltimore Orioles (1959-60). He was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1950.

He died on December 17, 2010, at the age of 87.
