Former Eastern League prospect Dixie Howell was born on this date in 1920. He played in the Eastern League during 4 seasons (1939-40, '41-'42).
Howell pitched 6 seasons in the majors with the Cleveland Indians (1940), Cincinnati Reds (1949), and Chicago White Sox (1955-58).
He died of a heart attack on March 18, 1960 at the age of 40.
