Former Eastern League prospect Al Gardella was born on this date in 1918. He played in 107 games for the 1943 Utica Braves.

He played in 16 games for the New York Giants in 1945. He was a player-manager for several minor league teams after his brief major league career.

Gardella died September 10, 2006, at the age of 88.
