He was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1976, and the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004.

Crowe died on January 19, 2011, at the age of 89.

Former Eastern League prospect Richie Ashburn was born on this date in 1927. He played for the Utica Blue Sox during two seasons (1945, '47).

He played for the Philadelphia Phillies (1948-59), Chicago Cubs (1960-61), and New York Mets (1962). Ashburn was 5-time All-Star and won the National League batting title twice.

After he retired as a player, Ashburn was a longtime broadcaster for the Philadelphia Phillies. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995. 

Ashburn died on September 9, 1997, at the age of 70.
