Today's Birthday: Steve Kuczek (Hartford Chiefs, 1949)

Former Eastern League prospect Steve Kuczek was born on this date in 1924. He played for the Hartford Chiefs in 1949.

After graduating from Colgate University, he was signed by the Boston Braves in 1949, and assigned to Hartford and later Pawtucket (New England League).

Kuczek appeared in one major league game for the Boston Braves and doubled off of Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Don Newcombe in his only at bat, retiring from baseball with a 1.000 batting average.

He died on November 21, 2010 at the age of 85.
