He played for the Philadelphia Phillies (1948-59), Chicago Cubs (1960-61), and New York Mets (1962). Ashburn was 5-time All-Star and won the National League batting title twice.
After he retired as a player, Ashburn was a longtime broadcaster for the Philadelphia Phillies. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.
Ashburn died on September 9, 1997, at the age of 70.
