Today's Birthday: Cliff Mapes, Wilkes-Barre (1943, '46)

Former Eastern League prospect Cliff Mapes was born on this date in 1922. He played for the Wilkes-Barre Barons in 1943 and 1946.

Mapes played in the major leagues during 5 seasons for the New York Yankees (1948-51), St. Louis Browns (1951) and Detroit Tigers (1952). He played in the 1949 and 1950 World Series.

He died on December 5, 1996, at the age of 74.
