On this date in Eastern League History: January 12, 1962

Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Mel Parnell was named manager of the York White Roses. Parnell played in the Eastern League for the Scranton Red Sox in 1946. He pitched for Boston for 10 seasons (1947-56) and was a two time All-Star (1949 & '51).
