After serving in the military during World War II, he played in the majors for 13 seasons with the Cleveland Indians (1946-1958). He was a 20 games winner 7 times and retired with a career record of 207-128. He was named to the American League All-Star team 7 times and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976.
After his playing career, he managed for several years with the Kansas
City Royals (1970-72), Chicago White Sox (1977-78), and New York Yankees
(1978-79, '81-'82).
Lemon died on January 11, 2000 at the age of 79.
